Engagement bait checker
Both platforms have said they show less of posts that ask for engagement instead of earning it. Paste a post to find the lines that do.
How to use it
- Paste your post.
- Read each flagged line and why it's flagged.
- Rewrite it so people have a reason to reply rather than an instruction to.
What the platforms have said
LinkedIn said in May 2022 that it would not promote posts asking for likes or reactions, and in March 2026 that it shows less engagement bait such as "comment to agree". On X, the open-sourced ranking code gives a "not interested" or "show less" a far larger negative weight than a like is positive, so bait that annoys even a few readers can cost more than it gains.
What to do instead
- Make a specific claim reasonable people could disagree with.
- Ask a real question you want answered, in the body rather than tacked on at the end.
- Share something people want to send to a colleague.
