    X character counter

X doesn't count characters one by one: every link counts as 23 and most emoji count as 2. This counter uses the same rules, so the number you see matches what X will accept.

    How to use it

    1. Paste or type your post.
    2. Turn on Premium if your account can post long posts.
    3. Watch the count and the characters left.

    How X counts characters

X counts by its own published rules rather than by letters. Every link counts as 23 characters however long it is, because X shortens it. Most emoji count as 2. Characters from scripts like Chinese, Japanese and Korean also count as 2. Everyday Latin letters, numbers and punctuation count as 1.

Standard accounts can post 280 characters. X Premium subscribers can post up to 25,000, but only the first part shows in the timeline before "Show more".
